Is this package using routes.php for translations of the routes? I get my localizedRoute to work but it totally ignores the routes.php transations.

What do you mean he's ignoring the translations? If you look in the code, you will see that the localizedRoute function is a wrapper for:

My apologies, what I meant was that it was not translating the slug

I got it. The value of the “slug” property is not translatable, as it must be explicitly mapped to a specific record in the database. That's why you can't translate on the fly, because the same translator, such as Google Translate, can translate the same sentence differently.

In addition, on-the-fly translation is not necessary also because it is a very long and unstable process.

I can't tell you how others do it, so I'll tell you how I do it.

I use the laravel-lang/models package, which translates names, BUT it does not translate the meaning of “slug”. So “slug” in my application is always in English.

For example:
