Now that performant Windows ARM devices are on the market with the Snapdragon X1 Elite, it might be nice to have a native Windows ARM build of UT so that translation layers aren't necessary.

This game should run well even on older-generation Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2/3 Windows on ARM devices - if native ARM binaries are ever released.

Which begs the question: Is that ever going to happen?

There's not a considerable market for windows arm right now. I did try to buy an arm devkit, but snapdragon dropped the ball so hard on that, that I was unable to order it and when it finally came out, it was like 4 months late to the market, as the arm laptops already launched.

There's not enough support on the application side because both Microsoft and Qualcomm don't provide enough resources nor seem to care enough about developers.

Why would developers port their software to arm when they can't even ship a devkit on time? It's just not worth it, I polled my users, and like only 2 were interested in native arm builds.

I think we do need to care about Windows on ARM, even if adoption has been slow - because Apple has changed the game.

Yes, the Windows ARM devkit situation was a mess. Microsoft really should have planned that better. But at this point, it is what it is.

On the hardware front, things are starting to shift. From what I've been hearing, Microsoft had an exclusivity deal with Qualcomm that expired last year. That’s opening the door for new players like NVIDIA, who are preparing to enter the Windows on ARM space with their N1 and N1X SoCs.

I've also been closely following this issue:
actions/runner-images#768

And just recently, this happened:
https://blogs.windows.com/windowsdeveloper/2025/04/14/github-actions-now-supports-windows-on-arm-runners-for-all-public-repos/

So yeah, progress has been really slow - like a snail’s pace - but I believe things are finally about to ramp up.

Eh, we'll probably be slow to that front, if that happens. We don't even have automatic builds for any project 🙃

None of us have any windows compatible arm products, and I have no plans to get one in the near future either.

Not saying no (that's why the issue is open), but don't plan on even like within the next year, or maybe even 5. If it happens, it happens.
