"data has been modified" popup is confusing for edit() called inside a model

When the editor is used within code, and especially in the middle of a model the popup does not make much sense and is confusing (one of our users thought it meant the in-memory changes where reverted on "discard".

Unsure whether the message needs to be changed, or the popup not shown at all, or the in-memory data actually reverted on "discard"
