@ayodejiayodele After adding the app in the Power BI web, there is no option to download the .pbix file.

1. In Power BI web, go to Apps and ensure you have at least version 16 installed
2. Then, go to Workspaces and open the Workspace corresponding to the same name of the app
3. Open the report with the name product_github_copilot_dev_metrics
4. On the File menu of the report, you should see Download this file. This is the .pbix file that you can customise with Power BI Desktop

P.S. You can also customise directly online without needing to do it locally on the client. Just click Edit right on the report.

I can see the default report view, but I cannot download it from file menu and then download this file.

The dashboard has some configurations including incremental refresh, which allows you to have up to 1-year usage trend of Copilot. 🚀 This feature is only compatible with Power BI Premium, Premium per user, Power BI Pro, and Power BI Embedded models.

Hi, I attempted to access my enterprise account, but I noticed that the naming conventions for my organization and enterprise differ.
For the enterprise, I have a space (e.g., Abcd Efgh), while for the organization, I use a hyphen (e.g., Abcd-Efgh). Unfortunately, I'm having trouble connecting via the API with my GitHub username, and the dashboard refresh is not occurring. Can someone please help me?

I'm getting errors refreshing the data, whether I specify "null" (for all Organizations) or an individual specific Organization in the list, and regardless of what option I choose for privacy level...

Data source errorColumn 'organization' in Table 'CopilotOrgStats' contains a duplicate value 'xxxxxxxxxx' and this is not allowed for columns on the one side of a many-to-one relationship or for columns that are used as the primary key of a table.

NOTE: Organization name has been redacted and replaced by "xxxxxxxxxx"

Any idea on what could be incorrect, or where else to look to diagnose?

Great question. We just fixed this in a newer version of the app over the weekend. Power BI introduced some auto-detected relationships to the model by accident. You can update to the latest release and I believe this would be fixed already.

Hello, I was trying to set this up for GitHub EMU account but i keep getting this error:

The credentials provided for the Web source are invalid. (Source at https://api.github.com/orgs/*****/copilot/metrics.). The exception was raised by the IDataReader interface. Please review the error message and provider documentation for further information and corrective action.

I have used my GitHub EMU username and PAT token with required access for setting the board up. Also I have tried both Private and Organization Privacy level but i keep getting the above error. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

I will recommend you try to consume the 5 APIs mentioned with the same token first. You can use curl in the terminal, or Postman, Insomnia or something similar. If you are successful with all 5, then the dashboard should work

I am an admin of two GitHub Enterprise instances. One of them is a GitHub Enterprise Managed User (GHEMU) instance. While running the Power BI Copilot Metrics report, I encountered an issue where it fails to fetch data for the GHEMU instance, while it works fine for the other one.

Thanks for your reply, indeed the pbip in the src looks the same, I overlooked it!
Using that one, I was able to make the report work. The app still throws an error, even though the parameters are identical.
I tried with OrganizationList as an empty string and containing 1 and 2 orgs: same error each time.
Nevertheless, it's not a problem anymore as I'm now using the pbip file from the github repo which allows me to customize the report to my needs.

Previously this had been working. I have tried it both with our org defined, as well as with it empty, and both fail the same.

Hello - I was wondering when the capability to filter down to data at the Team level is going to be added?

There are endpoints that already exist for returning data narrowed down in this way, and following GitHub's suggestion we are utilizing a single org to manage Copilot access, meaning there is currently no way to filtering down to a more granular view of the data.

We have the GitHub Copilot Metrics Power BI app setup in our Power Bi workspace. It is not longer able to pull the data from the Copilot API. Has there been an outage or an update to the app for the new API endpoints? We setting up the app we followed these instructions and everything worked great until 2/26 when the data didn't refresh. We aren't able to change the endpoints the app is hitting. We can only enter in User and Organizations credentials.

Hi @ugurakineren that sounds like your PAT not having the correct permissions and/or scope. Please make sure to cross-check your PAT against the permissions/scopes listed in the instructions.

In your case - using the url you provided - you can do a quick sanity check by;

Instructions says we need to create a classic token. But when try to use that token (token created with full permissions) with powerbi app, it calls this endpoint for all the organizations in the enterprise:

This endpoint does not accept classic tokens. It says:

I am admin in a GitHub Organization, "orga-X" which is part of the enterprise "enterprise-X" - I am not part of it.
I create classic PAT with all the permissions needed and enabled it without trouble, which has admin:enterprise as somebody suggested on this thread, instead of manage_billing:enterprise and read:enterprise. (I tried with them too)

(the token is also authorized)

I configure everything properly

With my github user name, the PAT, Auth set to Basic and privacy to Public.

If I only want to get the metrics from this organization, I only need owner to the organization not? or I need to be owner on the Enterprise account as well? I think I may be responding to myself, but can somebody confirm this?

Hi @joslat - some of the data tables in the dashboard require enterprise-level read access as listed in the instructions so unfortunately you do need to have either the Billing manager role or the Enterprise owner role.

I am using a credential that has been working and has not changed, but I started getting auth errors. I have verified the permissions and regenerated the token. I have verified the GitHub PAT has access using an API call to https://api.github.com/user. I have even tried reinstalling the PowerBI app. I continue getting auth errors.

I found the issue - the account that is used to generate the PAT has to have enterprise level permissions. It appears when I thought I had it working, it was using the last successful sync of data from when it was configured with my personal PAT. The service account I was trying to use did not have that level of permission, so it failed. Kind of scary to require such high level permissions for a report, but that was the issue.

I ended up using my personal PAT, not sharing the workspace, and subscribing people to the report.

It does not seem like the organization filter works for most of the pages. We have 2 orgs in the enterprise that has copilot licenses. Filtering on one of the orgs does not update any of the reports on the page. Oddly, it does work only on the "Org Usage Metrics" page.. how can this be fixed?

Also, i'm a bit new to Power BI. is there a way to get the PBIX file? We added this app into our own, but unable to share it to others without a license. The reports we created ourselves can be shared, but not this app.

We have been running this PowerBI app for about a month. We're running the most recent version of it and it has been running fine for that time. However, yesterday, the refresh began failing:

We didn't change anything in our environment. However, it seems that the issue is that the "advanced_security" API endpoint now requires a query parameter for "advanced_security_product" which this app doesn't provide. I tested in postman and it also returns a 422 if I don't send a value for that parameter.

Thank you! Github seems to like to change their API endpoints and query parameters fairly often. Any chance that a future version of this app might incorporate some updates to allow data to still flow in if an endpoint or query parameter is incorrect?

Or even allow the PBIX to be downloaded so that we can modify it ourselves for things like this in the future?

I apologize for my ignorance on what data "should" be pulled back. I saw on the PR it's only adding 1 security product. Should this include both per the documentation?

It seems like the issue is related to the advanced_security API endpoint now requiring an additional query parameter (advanced_security_product) that was previously not needed. I tested this with Postman and received a 422 Unprocessable Entity error when the parameter was omitted. The solution would be to modify your PowerBI app to include this new required parameter when making the API call to avoid the 422 error.Hope this helps!

Typically, you shouldn't lose historical data if you choose the option to upgrade, unless in cases where the updated version is not backwards-compatible. You should be fine from here on out.

Yes you can customise the dashboard, but this would be PBIP, not PBIX and is compatible with most versions of Power BI Desktop. Feel free to clone this repo and open the /src directory. It is important that you use the *.pbip file.

So I think a recent fix around the advanced-security APIs has broken this dashboard for me. I have been getting the error message below since I last updated. Just for context - although I suspect most customers will have gone onto the new advanced security offering at the start of last month, there will be enterprise customers like me who are going to be stuck on the old offering until our contracts are renewed - this is over a year away for me unfortunately. Unfortunately the API implementation is not particularly helpful - if you run this query with the advanced_security_product parameter set to anything, it will fail with an HTTP 422 error.

Is it possible to update the dashboard so it will support the old advanced security product alongside the new one please?

A new version has been released with a fix that accommodates various options. If you update to the latest version (version 27), you will find an additional parameter named, GHASStandalone. In your case update the parameter as False if you don't have standalone GitHub Advanced Security. Set it to True if you do.

Someone at MS probably realized that having Copilot metered usage kick in right in the middle of the Microsoft 365 Community Conference is probably not the smartest marketing move, from a community optics perspective.

As the Copilot Metrics API now returns information about the models used, are there any updates to have this information in the Power BI app?

Thanks @thaiknguyen. It all depends on the API.

The API currently displays whether it's a custom model or default model, but not which specific model.

Once the information you need is available in the API, you can report on it from Power BI.
