accessibility - can't keyboard navigate with tab and arrow keys to choose a date

Can't navigate with tab and arrow keys to choose a date, no tab indexes on the component.
It seems that the default behaviour you get from the browser implementation of the native input="date" is overridden and accessibility or keyboard navigation isn't supported
